About the Team: Over the years, thousands of athletes have had the journey of a lifetime participating in endurance events as American Cancer Society Charity Runners. You too can participate in an event that we are partnered with while raising funds and honoring and remembering those who have been touched by cancer. To date over 3,000 athletes have participated in our program raising of $3 million dollars. Making a Difference: Funds raised through American Cancer Society programs such as the Charity Runner Program support the areas of cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient services. Nearly every major research breakthrough in the past 60 years can be traced to the American Cancer Society. To date, the ACS has funded 40 Nobel Prize Laureates, and invested over $3 million dollars in cancer research. Major research breakthroughs include the use of tamoxifen as a means to fight breast cancer, the discovery of the genes for inherited breast and colon cancer, and the development of the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test for prostate cancer screening.
